Sunday morning waking up late in the day and listening to the sound of my awesome KEURIG brewing and waiting immensely for my next fix of online shopping. Showered up and I’m ready to go to online to my favorite news week website or looking for that bargain sale from http://amazon.com.
I have arrived, logged in successfully using my Windows profile. I have noticed something different, it seems a little bit odd that day about the internet running really sluggish and not performing like it used to be blazing fast up to 50 Mega Bits per second. I’ve noticed significant lag on the navigation front side also and the desktop icons are not arrange correctly. I tried to access different web sites and my browser keeps on crashing every few seconds.
A light bulb pops into my brain and putting all together with all these symptoms that is going on with my Computer. I came up with the culprit, a computer virus might have attached deep into my computer files directory? This could be a possibility? I say. I tracked back the day before, and I realized what I have done!
A day back my computer was an open gateway to the outside world, meaning NO anti-virus protection! naked to the bone or any type of computer scanning shield running in the background! Tracking back again, I was originally performing my own experiment and at that moment I decided to remove the anti-virus program and eventually I was going to re-install after the experiment was completed, right? Wrong! It was just my luck, as I was going buck wild surfing the net and clicking on different websites and pop ups was going out of control. Where I was not paying any attention of the damage it would cost me later on.
Ladies and gentlemen if you are not tech savvy, Do Not attempt this stunt at home or you will pay the cost by taking your computer to your local geek squad and have them remove the virus that will break the bank. Lesson learned; always protect yourself at all times!! Preventive maintenance is the key. You can download and install from Microsoft’s website http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download better known as Security Essentials (Antivirus Software) product that provides protection against different types of malware such as computer viruses, spyware and Trojan horses. It is absolutely free from Microsoft and works descent enough to monitor and guard against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
If you want to take it up to the next level, I solely recommend an anti-malware program called “Malware bytes”. There is a free ware download version called “Malware bytes Anti-Malware FREE”. The FREE version works great, but if you want to get the whole enchilada. The Premium version is the best bet, you will get 1 year subscriptions and protect up to 3 computers for only $24.95! This is an absolute must investment especially dealing with critical data on your computer. I will talk about more in details on my next post with the subject in hand “Malware Bytes”.
The first and best approach is try to re-install your license anti-virus program, download the definition updates and run the full scan. If you are using Malwarebytes, due to my experience with this product. It detected the malicious virus/malware and prompted to remove them. Rebooted it and it appears to be back to normal. It is best practice to have your anti-virus protection always have it enable on real time and if you removed it. Be pr0active and immediately re-install!
Note: This approach is the last option if you cannot get rid it and the virus got too deep into the file directory: Fortunately my critical data was stored to my external USB Hard Drive. Since, the damage was done and the best approach for me was to wipe the whole entire operating system (Windows 7) and reformat the drive. Then re-install my license Windows 7 operating system from scratch inputting the product key and all. The last step was to re-install my entire programs then continue with my license “Malware Bytes” premium version. Performed the suggested updates then ran the full scan, I was good to go! Any suggestions or comments please let me know.
